Toronto-based 3D drone mapping company AirMatrix won a contract to build a 3D digital map of the city from Calgary in May 2019


In 2020, 3D drone mapping company AirMatrix began building a cloud-based platform that would guide drones to within millimeters of precision around streets and buildings.

With a population of more than 1.3 million, Calgary has sprawling suburbs and a city center filled with commercial office towers, condos, two rivers and light rail trains powered by wind turbines.

The 3D map of Calgary will provide the experience for AirMatrix, which will help map 100 cities over the next 12 months.

The company believes that national and international standards for 3D drone maps will be ready in about two years. In about two years, they predict commercial drones will make deliveries. AirMatrix says the software platform is unique, and it can also be used for VTOL aircraft.
