According to an article published on Volocopte's website on October 12, 2021, Volocopter, a developer of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, and DB Schenker, a global logistics company, carried out VoloDrone freight at the ITS World Congress 2021 in Hamburg Demonstration of electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) drone operations. The demonstration showed that the end-to-end freight capacity of VoloDrone can be seamlessly integrated with the logistics supply chain. The demonstration event reflects the important results of the cooperation between the two companies since DB Schenker became a strategic investor of Volocopter in 2020
VoloDrone is an all-electric universal drone that can transport any of the six pallet sizes specified by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) within a range of 40 kilometers, with a maximum weight of 200 kg. The drone itself has a diameter of 9.15 meters, a height of 2.15 meters, and a maximum take-off weight (MTOW) of 600 kg. The future operation of VoloDrone will be fully electric, with autonomous BVLOS capability. This electric vertical take-off and landing drone can not only transport passengers and goods in urban transportation, but also perform challenging tasks for different industries, and can reach places that are difficult to reach by traditional transportation vehicles.
