JD.com launches low drone cost to delivery goods

Competition between JD.com and Alibaba has intensified competition for drone delivery in China. Alibaba's asset-light business model means that it relies on partners to complete the distribution of goods, but Cainiao, its logistics department, has partnered with Beihang UAVs to develop freight drones. The drone company is developing a drone that can carry a ton of cargo and fly over 1,500 kilometers. In May, Alibaba, who was acquired a while ago, was hungry, and was allowed to test drones in a large industrial area.

The drones used by JD and SF still account for only a small part of their daily operations, but for the Chinese government, drone technology provides a way to help rural areas reduce poverty and narrow the gap between the rich and the poor in urban centers. . It could also make China a template for other governments that want to draft regulations for the imminent emergence of civilian drones.

JD.com says parcel delivery costs in remote areas may be five times that of cities. JD.com and SF are reluctant to disclose how much drone can help save costs, but they predict that once drone technology can be applied on a large scale, their costs will be lower than those of courier companies that use manual delivery.
